Online training

Deutsche Telekom uses and promotes the potential of information and communications technology (ICT), both for the educational system and for training its own employees.

In today’s information society, knowledge is digital, and therefore rapidly available.

Multi-media learning – any time and any place – with the Edunex learning platform.

Multi-media learning – any time and any place – with the Edunex learning platform.

Many people are already accustomed to using online encyclopedia at work or at college, but modern ICT can do much more: interactive and multimedia concepts can help to make learning both exciting and effective.

Learning – the latest generation
T-Systems has devised an Internet-based learning platform for the learning and teaching of the future. "Edunex" (Education Next Generation) supports interactive learning and encourages students to work independently. Teachers even have the option of adapting the multimedia materials to suit students’ individual abilities. Edunex also offers translation tools to make it easier for immigrant students to follow the lessons, in the interest of equal opportunities in the classroom.

Edunex was launched in Hesse in early 2009, where it is currently being trialed at around 100 schools. As well as operating Edunex at a central level, T-Systems is also supplying around 300 notebooks for teachers and offering introductory training courses. Edunex was first tested in the T-City Friedrichshafen, where the Pestalozzi school has been successfully using this innovative learning platform in its classrooms since March 2008.

The "Edukey" was designed to ensure that learning and teaching with the Internet-based learning platform is secure. This biometric key, showcased at CeBIT 2009, can be connected to any PC or laptop, and ensures that only authorized students and teachers are able to access the platform. The system recognizes users by their fingerprints, and grants access according to their level of authorization. Internet access is a requirement for using this innovative learning platform. All 34,000 general and vocational schools in Germany have enjoyed free access to the Internet since 2000, under the Telekom@School scheme.

Online training
E-learning is a principal theme of employee training at Deutsche Telekom. One example is a short online training course to promote the use of eco-friendly office products. Secretaries’ offices which use an in-house electronic ordering portal to order their office supplies receive a brief, virtual guide to these eco-friendly products. The training is conducted in the form of a teleconference with Netmeeting, which is climate-neutral and avoids travel expenses. Almost all secretaries’ offices at Deutsche Telekom branch offices in Germany now benefit from digital training.
