Forwarders decrease costs for maintenance and diesel with telematics
Deutsche Telekom provides data flat rate in Europe
More than 5,000 vehicles use MAN telematics
MAN and T-Systems jointly enhance the telematics applications of the utility vehicles manufacturer. The partners have now signed a corresponding three-year contract. In the future, customers will receive the MAN Go2 telematics package for free upon concluding specific maintenance agreements. This telematics entry package consists of modules for vehicle usage analysis and a maintenance plan with a newly designed data portal from T-Systems. Using the package, forwarders can reduce fuel consumption by up to 20 percent and use their heavy goods vehicles more efficiently. With the telematics system and the maintenance portal, maintenance times can be planned most efficiently, thereby reducing expensive downtimes. This means additional savings for vehicle owners, the shipping operation in forwarding agencies runs more smoothly, and the cargo reaches the customer on time.More than 5,000 vehicles already benefit from the telematics services developed by MAN together with Deutsche Telekom. While T-Systems operates the maintenance data portal and the server, T-Mobile delivers the SIM cards and provides the mobile communications network. The vehicle usage analysis is a special module of the telematics software. It provides data on fuel consumption, average speed or rpm, to name just a few examples. This information helps drivers to optimize their driving style and thus, reduce fuel consumption. In addition, the vehicle usage analysis creates a report on the status of wear-dependent parts such as motor oil or brake pads. This data is included in the maintenance portal which can be accessed by both the forwarders and the MAN repair shops, thus enabling repair shops to calculate the best time for pending inspections and set a date. This reduces downtimes and increases the vehicle’s lifespan. Thanks to the maintenance information portal, the forwarders also have a better overview of which vehicles are scheduled for an appointment at the repair shop. This enables them to control the utilization of their fleet in the long term and to use it more efficiently. The functional scope of MAN telematics can be increased on request: Services will then range from tracking + tracing, driver-related evaluations of driving style and display of the remaining driving time via the exchange of text messages, down to complete order management and integration in available planning systems. MAN telematics thus provides entrepreneurs with all significant data required for optimizing vehicle usage and at the same time makes the transport process transparent.About Deutsche Telekom AG
